Recently, the Industrial Evaluation Technology of “Simulated Digestion Method” for Feed Nutritional Value—developed by the Poultry Nutrition and Metabolism Innovation Team of the National Key Laboratory of Livestock and Poultry Nutrition and Feed, Institute of Animal Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences—has been selected as a ​Major Agricultural Sci-Tech Achievement of 2025 in China.

This technology has overcome key bottlenecks in fully automated simulation of gastrointestinal digestion in pigs and poultry. It introduces a simulated digestive fluid preparation method that closely mirrors the physiological environment inside animals and has innovated a standardized, automated, and instrument-based simulated digestion system along with its supporting technical framework.

Compared with traditional biological evaluation methods, this technology achieves a dramatic leap in efficiency—from ​​“weeks or even months” to just “a few hours”​—significantly reducing labor, material, and animal testing costs. Through standardized procedures, it also greatly enhances the reliability and reproducibility of data, offering the feed industry a ​fast, accurate solution for nutritional value assessment.

Currently, the technology has been widely adopted in practice and exported to countries including the ​United States, Belgium, Singapore, Brazil, and India. It provides critical scientific and technological support for the design of diversified diet formulations and the efficient utilization of unconventional feed resources in China, serving as a foundational “core technology” to help the breeding industry ​save grain, reduce costs, and improve quality and efficiency.

Looking ahead, this technology is poised to integrate further with intelligent formulation systems and big-data industrial platforms, injecting sustained technological momentum into building a ​precision nutrition supply system​ and safeguarding national food security.
