Ammonium polyphosphate (APP) is a flame retardant and smoke suppressant extensively used in various industries, especially inside the manufacturing of polymers and substances requiring fire-resistant residences.

UniVOOK Ammonium polyphosphate (APP) is a versatile flame retardant widely used in various industries for its excellent fire protection properties. It decomposes at high temperatures, releasing non-toxic gases that dilute combustible vapors and form a protective char barrier, effectively slowing the spread of flames. APP is incorporated into wood, plywood, and fiberboard to enhance their fire resistance, making them safer construction materials for homes, buildings, and furniture. It is applied to fabrics and upholstery to prevent them from igniting easily, contributing to fire safety in public spaces, airplanes, and other settings.

Features: Ammonium polyphosphate (APP)

  • Chemical Structure: APP is a white, non-hygroscopic, and non-flammable crystalline powder. Its chemical formulation is (NH4)n+2PnO3n+1, indicating a series-like structure composed of ammonium and polyphosphate ions.
  • Flame Retardant Properties: One of the number one programs of APP is a flame retardant. When uncovered to warmness or flames, it releases water vapor and ammonia, which dilutes flammable gases and cools the fabric, suppressing combustion and lowering the unfold of fire.
  • Polymer Additive: Ammonium polyphosphate (APP is typically used as an additive in numerous polymers, consisting of polyolefins, polyesters, and thermosetting resins. It imparts flame retardant traits to the polymers, making them appropriate for packages in which fire safety is vital.
  • Intumescent Coatings: In addition to its use in polymers, APP is a critical factor in intumescent coatings. These coatings become bigger when uncovered to the hearth, forming a shielding char layer that insulates the underlying material and delays the spread of flames.
  • Construction Materials: Ammonium polyphosphate is used in the production of fireplace-resistant creation materials, which include fireplace-retardant paints, coatings, and insulation materials, enhancing the protection of buildings and systems.
